i was somewhat reluctant to upload this because it's so close, but decided that the real feel of the rocks could only be seen by doing it. this was taken at sundown. as a matter of fact i turned to go back to the car to leave. when i looked back at the mountain it was dark. enjoy! thanks in advance for any comments.

It's a wonderful shot, Jen. I don't know much about these hills, but I guess the rock is sedimentary and I am wondering how hard it is after many years. Do people climb them?
I love the color of them. Here red soil means high iron content. I should really read about this more. Thanks for posting and making me curious.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

That is a great idea Jen. The evening sun exposed some texture and provided a dramatic shadow. Good show.

Terrific shot Jen and as you know my love for the red rock country, what more can I add. I wish I could be there :) The shadows on the rocks are great and the different striations show up so very well. Excellent post. Thanks for this one.

Very nice....landscapers are allowed to do closeups too. It's a good mix anyway. Good job.

All I can add is thanks for looking back and deciding this as a good one to post. Makes me wonder how many others you have decided against...just go with your gut feeling, my dear. This one certainly turned out to be the right thing to do :)

It's good to have a closer look to better enjoy the textures of the many layers of rock. Great shot.

That's so beautifully done! The sunlight is so radiant and makes that rock formation just totally shine! And then of course the shadow at the bottom of it all, its sooo good. Verena

An artist friend of mine, Roland Lee, painted me a watercolor very similar to this image. You might enjoy his work...
