Cool. I love the little ripples in the water. First I saw the thumbnail it looked like a shot taken from a ledge or something :P It must have been very calm.. the water's like a mirror except those little ripples on the right side. I wonder how the sharpness and contrast of the tree are so good.
Now this is the second time my mind has been bent around reflections. I thought, too, that we were sitting on a high ledge, and I'm still not convinced that we aren't, but it's an appealing shot.
If I didn't notice the gallery this is posted in I would also have figured...that's a long way down!!! The small ripple is the perfect subtle giveaway. The composition makes you really have to look at the shot...great job!!
So much... There's so much here. My favorite subtle detail: Reflected-tree and rock outcropping both point to the descending-out-of-view rocks under water. This is superb, Jess.
"There are no rules and regulations for perfect composition. If there were we would be able to put all the information into a computer and would come out with a masterpiece. We know that's impossible. You have to compose by the seat of your pants." -Arnold Newman
