If I may be so bold, came across a tutorial regarding a variation of the Orton technique. Found ... here.
And in particular, the addition of a layer mask to the one layer ... and in my humble opinion ... would allow for some judicious control of the blur employed.

Nice work. I enjoy this one.
And but of course, thank you for sharing your efforts behind the lens and in the editing chair with us.
p.s. I hope you are aware of the currently running contest? Would love to see a submission ... or two, from you. Time and opportunity permitting of course. And my apologies if I missed sending a PM to you regarding the contest.
One misty, moisty morning, when cloudy was the weather... You reminded me of an old nursery rhyme. I love to see the mist rising from the lake early in the morning. I like yours very very much. I like the way the stones show up.Verena
