this is an actual photo taken with my 24-70 zoom pointing directly upwards looking at the Milky Way, I zoomed out took the 30 second exposure but the zoom slipped during the shot. interesting what happens by accident :) of course ppl will recognise the startrek split infinitive warp reference, make it so ;)

That's awesome Jeremi! I think this is one of the most unique star trail images I've seen. It looks so controlled, how long was the exposure? You see you have inspired me to think about the possibility to target Polaris and get the circular star trail while having this zoom effect over say a period of 2-3 hours.

i saw this in the voting booth and i had to check it out. at first i thought i was computer generated but upon reading, i was amazed to find that it was a photograph! normally, the best things are created in the event of an accident, which i think is cool. awesome shot!

That is crazy. Can't say i have ever seen a lens slip like that before, but it sure turned out an interesting shot. Something i would like to try, but im not so sure i want my lenses to start slipping:P.
