Thank you guys for the great support. :) I bought this particular rose as a cutting flower to my wife on her birthday. After the flower withered we decided to try if it would set roots and actually managed to get it to thrive and flower anew.
I shot hundreds of photos of it while the blossom grew more and more beautiful for each day. This is one of my favourite shots of it.
I'll try and move it to the contest gallery. After all it's truly a photo with a lot of love behind it! :)
As an image of love, the red rose is rather stereotypical. However this image is well captured and the story behind it is absolutely brilliant. I like this.
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts." Bertrand Russell
That was very kind of you to say Matthew. I know it's a stereotype, but it's hard to be original these days... ^_^ Allmost everything have been done not once but hundreds if not thousands of times.
That would be fun if I won. ^_^ How can you tell? I didn't think it was decided yet. I'm still quite new here so I'm a bit uncertain about how everything works.
you can't go wrong with such a beautiful subject. im curious, did you edit the background any? also, did you crop it like that in post editing or did you chose to take the photo like that?
and they don't know that you won they're just talking :p
Some people want it all,
but I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby,
if I ain't got you baby
Some people just want everything,
but everything is nothing
Without you, baby
If I ain't got you, baby
I did no editing on the background. I did however crop the image from 2592x1944 to 1600x1200. I shot around 250 photos of this rose as it grew more and more beautiful. (I guess one of my secrets as a photographer is patience... ^_^) Some of them basically looks like this without cropping but this is one of very few that got the prefect angle, background and lightning. ^_^ I really like that rose. :)

Hehe. :) Thank you Mary Jo. All you need is patience to shoot something like this! (Lots of it! ^_^) I took a couple of hundred shots of this rose and maybe 10% turned out ok... I had a good day... ^_^ Well I actually shot it for several days in its way from a rosebud to full blossom.
A word of encouragement (I think): I only had my camera for three months before I shot this one. I've used cameras before naturally but not really in the last 10 years before I got this one. I briefly used an old SLR in my late teens and since then made nothing more advanced than snapshots once in a while. I'm still a rookie, and I firmly believe that anyone can shoot the kind of shots I do. :) (Well maybe not my crazy experimental stuff... o_O)
Thanks Chris for the comment. I had some luck with the light on my balcony I guess. The light just after a summers rain can be very good for photography. Plus the post edit brings out the best of the shot. I had the rose on an arms lenght away (more exactly between 20 - 40 cm). I had to support it with my hand to get the right angle because it was so heavy from the rain drops.
wait...that was really weird, when i opened up the image there were no posts, then I posted something and all of the posts appeared. BY THE WAY, GREAT PICTURE!
