I discovered this butterfly in the back ledge of my car the other day. It had apparently died while trapped in my car unbenownst to me. Thanks to all that view and comment. EDIT: Changed title from "Butterfly" to "Moth".

Er... excuse me for saying so but this is a moth, not a butterfly. It looks like it's probably an arctiid moth ("tiger moth") though without seeing the wings fully spread it's difficult to say for sure. It's a nice capture though - the metallic blue markings show up beautifully against the dark ground-colour.

Yes, for sure the moth you described. Gorgeous colours. I found a monarch butterfly the same way, but on my law a couple weeks ago. I saved it. I have heard a person can make some pretty jewelry or a picture from the wings. But I dont think I would be able to take the wings off!! No way. So I should probably just put it in the forest or something. V

Moth?, Butterfly? It doesn't matter to me. All I know is that it has some beautiful markings on it. So glad you wanted to share it with us. I've enjoyed viewing it very much Linda. Thanks!

Haha! Maybe I should call it a "motherfly" or a "buttermoth"! Thanks for the info. I didn't really think it was a butterfly but I couldn't think of what to call it.
