At midnight our cats were making a lot of noise at the deck door. I grabbed the camera & guess who was eating the birdseed! This character. The one thing he/she did not count on was being in a photo shoot. Being an opossum though, it was very co-operative in holding still! The accomplice, Mr. Racoon high-tailed it away from the scene of the crime!

Haha, I love these little critters. Much like the raccoons here Mimi...they high tail it outta here when they see me. One of these days! I've only seen one with these eyes and it was crossing the street in Vancouver. Awesome capture...looks like that camera is becoming quite familiar now:-)

Good morning Mimi
This oppossum is giving you it's full attention - good catch of the ears and eyes focussed in your direction. It does not appear to have any fear - and what's that about possession being nine tenths of the law? Did it leave much seed? I give you high marks and to my desktop.

this is a very detailed image! i can't resist its eyes.. awww.. i have never thought that i will be impressed by a little oppossum :))
its face makes a great contrast with those cute little ears and the rest of the dark background.. and of course.. those eyes.. :))
most of us would just go to the door and check things out.. i believe it's the photographer's instinct to carry the camera everywhere he or she goes :)) and this time it was a full guess!
great work, high marks & favourites, of course.. ;)

Beautiful shot Mimi... he is so cute..... we have possums over here too... we had one that used to come every night the kids used to leave fruit out for it.. got to the stage where you could basically feed it by hand... unfortunately he's not with us anymore.. the dog next door got it a couple of years ago....

great capture.. very clear... good composition and lighting... well done ... :D

Wow, Mimi. Nice capture. When I lived down in Texas, I was invited to supper one evening by a family who had cooked one of these for the meal. I didn't think they tasted that great. :{

Well it's a nice capture, but I never thought too much up them for a desktop...hmm, maybe an armadillo, that's just a opossum on the half shell...nathan, they aren't good eating either...

I remember a word "Varmit"I am currently expirenceing my own invasion of agressive squirels.They have eaten through the tops of my plastic garbage cans to root around like pigs in slop.Is squirel good to eat lol?I could invest in a pellet gun and a smoker.Smoked squirel does'nt sound too bad.It would cut down on the grocery bill too.This little marsupial looks like he has eaten at this restaurant before and is familiar with the bill of fare.Good capture Mimi.It pays to have a camera redy to roll.

Hi Mimi, how delightful to see you again. I have missed you. This is the cutest little thing I have seen since Junes' little golden boy! The clarity is phenomenal!!! You did a perfect job with this one, I could almost shake hands with him. Wouldn't that be something to pull off! I offer you my biggest 10 and in my favs!! Happy Easter friend!!!! Sincerely, Marilyn

I don't know how you did it, but you managed to make a opossum look good. These creatures have ruined many a night's sleep for me, and I have some antipathy for them. This looks almost - cute.

Ya know, I love most animals, but I just can't see any "cuteness" in oppossoms! ::shudder::. They look like mutant rats to me!
BUT - the shot you got is great!

Great photo, I live in the country and had the same problem as you- only thing is late one night I looked out the back door and THOUGHT it was one of our outside cats. I opened the door to pet it and did I get a surprise when it looked up at me just as I was reaching out and hissed at me . The neighbors probably thought I was being murdered I screamed so loud. I went running one way and it went running the other way . I was scared at the time but now I laugh about it . Thanks for the memories- LOL

Wonderful "capture" of this culprit. Looks so cute in the photo ... but don't corner one of these little fellas ... it can get pretty nasty. Thanks for linking me to this great shot.
