A little story about this photo... This past Saturday, I awoke at 3:30 a.m to depart the house at 4:00 a.m. to be on my nearest beach at 5:00 a.m., in time for the sunrise show. Lot's of beautiful photos were obtained, which I hope to share in future posts. I have recently been interested in street photography and have done lots of reading in how to approach strangers and ask to photograph them. Such is the case with this German couple who I approached and asked if I could take their picture. They were more than happy to oblige and I positioned them as I wanted. I snapped off 3-4 shots and then showed them what I captured. They liked the images and we went our separate ways. Five minutes later, the woman comes running up to me, asking if I could email them the photos. I was more than happy to oblige. This, for me, was a lesson in overcoming fears in approaching strangers. As always, thank you for looking and leaving a comment.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

This is a super shot Doug. The silhouettes and the lighting couldn't be any better. Getting up that early and driving all the way was worthwhile

Every time I get up early to catch a sunrise, it ends up raining by the time I get there...
Excellent shot!
The colours are great and the couple add a pleasing element to the image.
Still want to see the shots of just an empty beach though...

I gave up on approaching strangers. I got tired of hearing "Get lost creep!" Now, if I want to take somebody's picture, I do it like I am working as secret agent SAJ. lol. Great looking shot that I am sure your posers will love. Well done, Doug.

Really nice shot.

For future reference.. as I don't think the following is quite applicable to your image here.. just brought it to mind:

Using the Photoshop Curves Tool

(/\ Small popup will appear.. simply close to continue to the article/tutorial.)

About halfway down the page.. and I quote;

"Transition of Clipped Highlighs"

"Digital photos may abruptly clip their highlights once the brightness level reaches its maximum (255 for 8-bit images). This can create an unrealistic look, and often a smoother transition to white is preferred. Move your mouse over the image to see the difference."

"Note the transition at the sun's border. In general, the highlight transition can be made more gradual by decreasing the curve's slope at the far upper right corner."

... ...

Thanks for sharing this one with us. I really like the visuals and 'feel' of this photo. :o)

This turned out very well, Doug. It is a nice shot of the sunrise but also shows the human element. Good Job.

All your efforts were worth it Doug, this is a beautiful image. I appreciate all you've done to get this image but as I know that there's no such time as 3.30am (clocks don't start till 10.00am!) I'm sure you're pulling my leg.

I could never do something like this because town is so small there are no strangers to approach. :) Good composition and perspective in the photo, Doug. Lovely lighting and colours in the photo. A nice step out of your comfort zone image.
