Winter fills the window pane. A foot or more of snow covers any reminder of warmer seasons. Gray skies and frigid air have placed a chill within my bones. Then a flash of color flits cross the yard to land on a nearby perch. A Goldfinch dressed in winters plummage. It seems to glow in the drab surroundings. With a glance in my direction it offers silent comfort ... reminding me that brighter, warmer days gone by ... will once again return. Then off it flies and the chill I felt leaves with it.

OK OK Maybe ... just maybe ... another bird had something to do with the chill leaving me. Perhaps it was a Turkey ... "Wild Turkey" in the cup I was holding. Cut me some slack here people ... I'm tryin' to set a mood for the image. :)

There's nothing wrong with setting the mood, my friend. I'm just surprised that you have a yellow goldfinch at this time of the year. They're usually well on the way to being quite dull, but this guy's as pretty as last autumn..well, it is still technically autumn..perhaps that's the ticket!!

He'd warm the cockles of my heart too, John. What a great flash of color he is and I think you set a fine mood with your narrative.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Your description is very apt, John. With that background the bird seems to bring in warmth with its color - or was he hoping for a small sip of Wild Turkey? Wonderful clear shot.

That's another winner, John. Your narative is pretty darn good too. Goldie is so clear it looks like it could start flying around my room. Nice work, my friend.

You don't need to set a mood for this image. It does it all by itself. I love the kindly expression on the birds face. He doesn't seem worried about snow one bit. A keeper.

Very well captured John, and a great narrative too. He is very colorful for this time of year, the ones that visit my feeder are dull looking, I will post one so you can compare. Good work.

OH MY!!! here again...what a magnificent birdie photo!! So simple, so grand!!You have lit a fire within me JOhn! This little guy is sooooo precious!!! Oh if only I could do a painting of birds! But I've never ever been able to capture faces on birds, animals or fish!! sad eh?! I adore this photo..you know Thoreau says "Simplicity is Elegance" and this little Goldfinch certainly deserves this title. Thank you once again..and into my new file it goes. Verena
