Alright Robert... you've got great negative space going on with the beautiful blue sky. It works really well as a background. You captured a super cool pose with this little mom too so props there. There's a bit of sharpness that gets lost when viewed at the larger sizes but i think regardless that this is one of your better shots. Keep em comin!

I have read that if your subject is looking into the frame it creates a more appealing result. In the case of your bird he is looking at something outside the frame which tends to lead the audiences eye away from the subject. The book also mentions the rule of thirds which is spoken about on this website in futher detail check in the forums. it gives you the basic rules of composition.
