This 360-degree panoramic image, covering the entire southern and northern celestial sphere, reveals the cosmic landscape that surrounds our planet. This starscape is part of the GigaGalaxy Zoom project, launched by ESO for the International Year of Astronomy 2009.

The original image totals 800-million-pixels, so this version is clearly reduced a lot but viewed at full size still displays a vast amount of detail.
