The Ares 1-X prototype rocket is rolled out of the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA yesterday to begin its slow drive up to the newly completed launch pad.

The Ares 1 is the proposed delivery solution for astronauts both to the ISS when the shuttle is retired (possibly) as well as to Lunar and eventually Martian manned missions. The test launch is due on Tuesday morning.

There is much anticipation and excitement surrounding the Ares rocket. And, much discussion should the U.S. go it alone or be part of the international community with it. Ah, the high cost of exploration. It is hard to see it's full size but I believe I read somewhere that it is as tall as the Empire State Building.
