In keeping with the winter theme. This image was also taken last winter. It was taken about four or five miles from Palouse Falls in South Central Washington........... I can just imagine a long freight train come a rolling down the tracks.

Wow Michael!!! I really like this shot...lots of detail going on in the background...kinda like there might just be something at the end of that lonely road....going into my keeper pile.

Hi Michael, an impresive image, almost classical.
It would have been great to actually have that train in the picture, because now I am searching the picture for what I would have expected to be there, but...isn't.

If you can't find the words, you may as well shoot it...

The angle you shot from really heightens the depth of the rails. And with the stark color, it makes for a lonely and desolate shot. Looks like you hit the emotional level right on the head with this photo. Nice work, Michael.

agree with the above, the composition, the colours are very good indeed, i particularly like the muted colours. :~) however, i'm still not sure as to where i stand on images with different dimensions on the black background. as an image on its own it can stand very well but in the context of the desktop....maybe some other type of framing?

LIKE: the colour choice of browns and sepias; the perspective with the subtle curve in the track before the tunnel opening; the snow covering the tracks themselves, which removes the repetitive principle of design - all that is left is the metal rails leading the viewer's eye through the composition; there is contrast between the smooth lines of the track and the rocky textures in the mountainsides. good flow and yet stops the eye from time to time.
DONT LIKE: train track dividing the picture plane more or less in half; however, the perspective factor keeps me from focusing on that, and can appreciate the the capturing of a nice moment in time.
IMPROVEMENTS? not too much - its a solid picture. maybe fooling around with selectively colouring areas of interest in the picture with the sepias. Again, nice choice - fits this composition well. This picture could also be applied to produce some surreal/abstract work - sublte manipulation of the rock textures to make a face? Could add some punch in another medium.

I love this photo. I love the way it looks like the picture part of the image is being divided in half and at the same time it appears to be divided in 2/3s fasion. awesome work!

Love the undisturbed snow on the tracks, and the touches of color from the patches of dead grass. The grassy sreas almost look misty.
