2003 was not a good year for the Chain of Craters Road in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The road originally closed in the early 80's due to lava flow. In 2003, at a cost of $4 million, they re-opened the road. About 8 months later, the volcano said no thanks, and closed it again. There are currently no plans to re-build the road, especially since the volcano is still erupting.

My first thought at the thumbnail was, "Okay, who overfed the elephants again?" Very unique. We don't see too many like this.
