This is a series of row houses in Gentilly in New Orleans. The high water mark is still clearly visible in this image - a sharp orange scar across the fronts of the houses. The water wasn't moving fast when it hit this neighborhood. It just rose quickly and sat for weeks in these homes dissolving graduation certificates and family photos and destroying dining tables and beds, sofas and clothing - in short everything these people owned. These houses are vacant now, their families gone and their doors smashed by rescue crews who searched them for injured or abandoned people. We can only hope they can be reclaimed.

A great capture again Reg. This one does not have the same strength of the others but still powerful as you tell the facts that we do not here in the false media. I am curious about those papers that were obviously placed after the disaster.

It is amazingly hard to comprehend the power that water has.....is that rescue/recovery writing in orange on the house in the foreground Reg? I like that you kept this image in color...it has much more impact that way.....well done as always :~)

Great capture. It is amazing (yet sad) in that the one huge resource we all depend on (water) can also cause so much turmoil & destruction. As always, excellent. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice shot here, it's important that we remember that people are still struggling in New Orleans. Good job.

Never question if you are in love or not, because if you were you wouldn't need to ask.

The silent emptiness is quite roaring in this image. Your comments are the best and most objective chronicles of the disaster that hit New Orleans. Thank you, Reg.

Yes there is sadness all around it... I guess it is even rainforced by the rythmes of the horizontal and vertical lines. Makes us stop for a minute or so to pay the tribute to the victims of the disaster.

If you admire nature for its creations why don't you visit the gallery of its reporter...

Apiece of history that may never be reclaimed. Such a pity. Thanks Regmar. Great angle and clarity on this.

This is a powerful reminder that even Mother Nature can have her darker side. The amount of Human tragedy here is very saddening. Thanks for sharing as only one who has lived through it can.

A heartwrenching photo and as Michael said "only one who has lived through it" can take this photo and feel its worth and pain. Thank you Reg....it reminds me of when I lived in Louisiana and the hot sultry days and nights..and here are the air conditioners everyone needed no matter what..just to survive, and now the places are empty...I imagine the people who used to be there miss these little places...thank you for your words....thank you....verena

At first glance, it almost seems like a painting. Interesting concept and very nice shot. It brings forth deep emotion and makes us never forget.
