This is the interior of Palazzo Braschi in Rome, now a museum. According to Wikipedia this is "the monumental staircase with its eighteen red granite columns which came from the gallery built by the Emperor Caligula on the banks of the River Tiber". Wow. It was worth a photo, then.

It also looks like the stairway in the Escher drawing where people are moving in all sorts of impossible directions.

Woo, I am dizzy looking at this one! Escher or not, this is a fabulous shot! Very clear and the history really adds alot to it. Hope to see more like this.
