You certainly captured that lightning strike very well. I hardly see any grain at all, which is very hard to do with such a low-light picture. I've heard of a gadget (don't know if it's new or not) that is triggered by the light of a storm. Looks like you didn't need it here!! :)

The ratio of darkness to central image is interesting, in another image it would be a problem, but in yours I think it actually captures something close to what the human eye sees in such situations and that seems to me to give the image a powerful realism, in contrast to images of lightning that we normally see in photos. Well done.
Lightning shots -- not easy ever, but this is an excellent one. AND that small field of light and form in the overwhelming darkness evokes the experience of night and storm just brilliantly. Saw this in the voting booth and just had to pop in and say you've made a wonderful, wonderful image.
