A pea sized Orb Weaver spider in a semi-defensive posture. Shot at 2X with the Canon MP-E65 macro lens and a ring flash. Taken handheld, at night and illuminated for focusing with a flashlight. It was upset at my clumsiness around it's web.

Well the actual capture with your equipment sure brought out the details of this spider, lots of detail, and very well contrasted. tigs=^..^=

Excellent! Spot-on focus on the face and fantastic details and color.

Not to mention, impressive results while juggling a handheld camera and flashlight for a night shot!

Even more impressive, to me personally, is your awareness of your effect on the spider and empathetic understanding of its defensive reaction. Serious respect, Russ! You are an enlightened soul.

Cool shot, all the way around!

Thank you both for the kind words. Anyone who has ever walked into an Orb Weaver web in the dark knows they're impressive. I've done it a few times and it's always a memorable event. Considering that we're Kaiju size compared to creatures like this and yet we're the ones to freak out, that's punching way outside their weight class. Just the same, it's good to be inconspicuous when monsters are in the neighborhood.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
