This giant teak tree protected by the Forest dept. of Kerala Gov. is an attraction here in NIlambur. Teak is known as paragon of Indian timbers.The scientific name of teak Tectona grandis gets it from latin word TECTONA which means 'Carpenter's joy'.It's anti corrosive and resistance to rust. Here in this plot there are 117 trees and this one is the biggest with 420cm.girth and 46.5 mtr. height.

A very impressive looking teak tree. I don't know of any other wood that can be so weather resistant and long lasting.

Beautiful take Ikka.. Nice to know that this is a protected one... Nilambur is the abode of teak plantation in India and Nilambur teak is considered as the best in class..

The Giant Redwoods in California are similar I think. Teak is such a light beautiful wood when used in things. Rust? what kind of rust? So interesting, what you wrote. Thanx..Verena

Wow Sayed that is one huge tree!! You know I have a teak wood table with 6 chairs in my kitchen...all made by hand. It came from a estate auction and I am very proud to have it.
