So this is the mosque where the people go for pilgrimage. very impressive and beautiful building. Nice architecture.

Yes, this icon of the Muslim world is an impressive thing. I am less sanguine, however, in the giant clock tower recently erected behind it--and in sight of the Kaaba no less. I'm not a Muslim but understand aspects of the faith because I teach it. If those not faithful could tour Mecca sometime, even for a few days away from the Hajj, I would jump at the chance.

A beautiful mosque. I too find the hotel in the background disdainful and a testament to the ridiculous excesses of modernity and opulence. Inshallah, one day I will see the Kaaba.
