I was watching my favorite movie, Hero, and decided to try re-creating the chess house set. It was a lot of fun because I noticed tons of new details, and I don't often work on architecture scenes.
Great composition, nice use of symmetry. Not too sure about the glow on the sky. The wet stones on the courtyard are just wonderful. Deserved a better CI than this, but B&W or almost B&W compositions never score very highly, believe me, I know.

I'm impressed too -- what application was used to render this? Amazing flagstones. And, though I didn't remember the film, I remembered the scene from this image. :-)
Great use of depth here. This is quite an exceptional render and really does achieve photographic quality. Evocative of so many iconic martial arts sets, it could be a frame from one of the classics. Very nice work.
Thanks for all the comments! It's built entirely in Blender which if you don't already know, is open source and really pretty cool. Worth checking out if you're into 3D.
Very good render. Until I read your description, I didn't realise it was cgi, however I did notice that the scale of the floor tiles seemed odd. I thought at first you had manipulated the focal depth when you took the shot to play around with scale, however now I realise that it obviously happened when you rendered the image. Not that the tiles are too big, it's more that you can tell thay have been scaled up; I think it might be that they look too flat, especially at the gaps between the tiles. SO I would suggest either scaling down the texture, or finding another that looks more realistic in the larger scale. Other than that it seems pretty flawless.
