I was fooling around the other day with my camera, taking pictures of various plants, and I don't know why this one struck me the way it did. Maybe it's the colors :)

The colors are nice and soft as well as the entire photo. It has a very calming aesthetic quality.

Indeed it is an unusual plant, but there are so many points of focus here that I'm not sure where to look. The blurred leaf in the upper right draws my eye to it, rather like a zit on the prom queen's forehead. And the background, although out-of-focus, is so busy it takes away from your subject. The shot was obviously taken from above. Shooting down through the various levels of the plant makes it impossible to create a well-established focal point. You can eliminate a lot of the background by shooting from a level position or from below. However, if you were to place something black (very black-no lint spots) behind the plant, and then did a macro shot of just one leaf, to dramatize that furry surface, you'd have a winner. Simplicity can sometimes make all the difference. Check out the gallery of a member, "colorel." She posted an image recently titled "Pinkfly" that embodies simplicity -- it's elegant. Sorry for the rant but I've seen so many photos on this site that could be great just by changing the shooting method and I have no idea what your photographic experience is. Keep experimenting -- photography can be vastly rewarding.

Actually, thanks for the tips iloridaa :) I don't know the first thing about photography, I was just surprised that the picture turned out semi decent. Usually all my photos are blurry lol.
