Tampa Bay's Lowry Park Zoo has a pair of bald eagles that were injured and no longer able to fly. While they seem to tolerate being on display, I can't imagine what loss they must feel from being permanently grounded. This was an overcast day with occasional light showers, hence the fluffed feathers.Technical stuff: Canon S3 IS @ maximum zoom (12X optical); 35 mm equivalent is 454 mm lens.

I can only imagine the loss of flight would be so much more than the loss walking. I have never dreamed of walking, but I have donned a pair of wings. I hope they will fly again...thanks for sharing this image and backgroud Charlie.

Loss of flight for a raptor means loss of hunting ability. Poor bird can no longer make a living. I'm glad he's being well cared for.
