Took the tripod out for the night down to Port Dalhousie. Someone was nice enough to park this boat right under a light. Thought about cropping the light source out but what the hell I like it, technical criticism be damned.
Saw this in the VB and liked it alot. Mostly for the unusual subject (Yacht in a parking lot) and your use of the night adds to the mystery.
My only suggestion I would offer is if a similar opportunity presents, maybe put some emphasis into the shadows cast by the light source. In this instance, you've hinted at it below the boat and behind the lamp stand, but (for me) not enough to balance the illumination source.
Yes agreed lighting effects makes for a dramatic subject otherwise Adobe would not have included these type of effects in their editing software-I think you have done a great job
Steve, I love the natural lens flare with the lights - glad you didn't crop that part out - it makes the shot. I would crop off the bottom - no tarmac (or whatever you call it) needed. I'd also crop off or photoshop out the lamp and other distracting stuff to the left of the ship - bring that black sky right down to the edge of the floor. The ship is magnificant and the lights really capitolize on it. Nice capture. anne =D
Tell me if you like it or don't but be sure to tell me why! I promise to always give honest and sincere (albeit gentle when necessary) critiques. MY NEW YEARS TIP for all, go have some fun with your new gear you got for Christmas. Do some things you rarely or never do. If you always shoot scenics, go shoot macros (or as close up as you can get.) Practice on different subjects, try new lighting techniques, bracket your shots (shoot the same image at different exposures and different apertures), get down low and shoot from your back, your belly, and your knees. Bend, twist, lean and climb up on things. Shoot toward the sky (carefully - blown out sunlight is NOT attractive :-) Just do something different and amaze yourself then share with us :-) Love you Caedians.
