This is a well known sight on the Coconut Coast (east) of Kauai. The following description is from Hawaiiweb.com : "The Nounou Mountain ridge bears a striking resemblance to a sleeping giant. Legend states that this giant once roamed the land and was much loved by the Hawaiians. They planted taro fields in his footsteps. One day the village chief wanted a new heaiu built. The villagers were much too busy farming so the giant volunteered. It took him two weeks to complete the project and when he was done, the village had a luau for him. It is said that after eating so much at the party, the giant laid down and has not awoken yet. Other folklore states that in ancient times, the people of Kauai planned to discourage any invaders to their island by lighting fires behind the mountain. This would illuminate the figure of the giant and thus scare off any invasion forces." Whichever you believe it's an unusual formation in an area of the island that's not particularly mountainous. This also shows the very many shades of green you find on Kauai "The Garden Isle".

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Who are you and what have you done with Kathy? I don't know much about flowers, but I know that this is no flower and that is not Chicago.

Hi, Kathy....

I guess my oh so subtle comment last week about the flower shots made you feel sorry for me. I appreciate the gesture, and now I guess I'll have to post a shot of a flower to make us even Steven.

You should have posted this one on St. Patrick's Day. I have never been to Kauai, but I understand that it is just as green as your image. Love the shot. Composition is wonderful, colors are unbeatable and I treasure the layers of vegetation from the grasses in the foreground to the trees and all things green growing on the mountain. Finally, you are the master of the borders in my book.

Kathy, your image is very nice, I like the shades of greens, and the contrasts, I also think the framing on this one is enhancing. I really enjoyed the story line behind this sleeping giant, both legends were very interesting. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Or legend #3: the natives imbibed a bit too much of the fermented coconut milk and starting seeing things that were not there.
A nice capture of the recumbent narcoleptic giant. I hope he doesn't snore or talk in his sleep. Lovely colours in the scene.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
