Sitting on my porch yesterday and happened to look up to catch this. What in the world is it??? Never seen one before and may never again.Would appreciate any help
Very cool shot. Perhaps it resembles something very deadly or perhaps it the deadly one resembling something harmless. It's hard to know. Great shot. Tom
I was so interested in knowing what this was that I looked it up and found out that it is called a Ailanthus web worm moth. It is a moth which flies during the day rather than the night. The info goes on to say that it feeds on a tree called the Ailanthus altissima. So it may be that you have a few of those trees in your neighbourhood which is its feeding ground. Hope that has been of some help. Great capture of this one taking a rest. Ann
The tree it feeds on is from China and is called the "Tree of Life". In many urban areas in the US, it has acquired the derisive nicknames of "ghetto palm" and tge "stink tree". But the moth is pretty. Nice pic!
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
