Wow...this is an amazing pic and I'm sorry if I took up the first comment, but the color and the presentation here is that of longing and hoping and...searching. You've done it all here, my friend :)
"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web." Pablo Picasso
i agree with PJ. this is an extrordinary photo. if you were trying to depict loneliness and a beautiful sadness, then you got it on the head. nice capture, super lighting.
You've done a wonderful job on this, I love the subject you chose: the detail is excellent, the lighting is perfect, the colors and textures turned out very well, and of course the idea of a mirror is great. Happy Birthday to your friend, this is bound to give an extra special highlight to her day :)
Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.

Hmm, beautiful tones in this Rob. I think it would be better if the bloom faced into the shot rather than out like you have it. However it’s a very striking and beautiful photo anyway.
Rob, this makes me wonder why your friend should be wanting for something or sad on a special day. Whichever - I hope your friend found something to enjoy - like this lovely photo dedicated to her - on her special day... ~Mary~
Saw your image here Rob on the front page and came by to pay proper respects to your work ...
Very nice.
Strong visually and aesthetically on a number of levels. The dramatic lighting element coming to the forefront of that list for me personally.
Hmm, think maybe I just 'got' it ... your title and concept, that is.
I had read through the above comments and posts and got stuck on the positioning of the rose ... in, or outwards as presented.
Your title? ... "Searching" ... think you nailed the concept.
The bloom is looking in on itself in it's reflection ... and the outward askance positioning ... serves to bring the feeling of discontent and unrest home ... even more so. But of course, there is hope.
Yeah, really nicely done. The more I take this one in ... the more I am impressed.
Thanks for sharing this one, it is a most enjoyable image.
