I would go with the top one..(More time etc)

also 'with' an explanation of a said topic or theme!....this would give members more time to think & work on an image!

I have thoroughly enjoyed these contests, it really gives a person a different outlook!...

Thank you Mr Caedes for giving us this chance!....

The contests do seem to come in rapid succession. The good part of this is that if the contest topic is not a good one, not inclusive etc it passes quickly. That said, there has been, in my view, a lack of the more abstract topics such as Les' suggestion for Union. Perhaps we (the members) are not brave enough to step outside our comfort zone, and I for one would welcome a mechanism that allowed the membership to have a say in the topic, but perhaps left the mods to make the final choice. This would allow topics to be 'fine tuned' and explained and hopefully allow interpretation and variety in postings.

Maybe this shouldn't be made a "rule" per se, but how about any contest winners step aside for a contest or two, and let some fresh blood compete. Ya know... spread the wealth and whatnot, seeing how the site is supposed to be a community.

Very good idea Rob. Not as a punishment...LOL (for winning). But to open up for other people. Been in many contests of that nature. Why not post it up in the opinions poll.

It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

@Paul (SatCom)

Thought about it, but the poll, as I understood it, is for suggestions to *caedes on how to structure future contests. That would make it mandatory. I'm simply suggesting voluntary action on the part of the membership.

I really do like Chris' idea of massaging the poll results a touch by some mod(s). I don't think it is necessary to have clarifications of the topic... I love going off on my own tangent! But perhaps it would help those who really want to win rather than have fun! :o)
Oh, and regarding the judge topic... they would, I hope, be appointed by the mods... with perhaps input from the remaining judges and/or the retiring judge? Or they could be replaced every year or two?
And Rob, I know you are thinking of the under-dog, but I for one do not mind having the BEST win the contests.. even ad nauseam! If the winners were determined more by luck than by skill... maybe I could be persuaded to agree... and still... probably not! :o)
And last but definitely not least!!! More time during&between contests!!!

From Laura... Cherry79

"I'm liking the new system. Those that haven't entered have a random chance of helping judge and those that have entered are very supportive of each other. I've done both so far. :-) Great job!"

I put a copy of this comment from the Suggest Contest Changes section into this area to counter-balance the/my judge suggestion.

I voted for "some explanation of the contest theme" because I see from the entries in the past that some of them have barely anything to do with the subject in question.

my two penneth worth - i dont necessarily think we need more time between contests, although perhaps once a month to give people more time to be creative, im with Ramad on some of the entries not having anything to do with the subject, i also vote for more challenging contests, for example the negative space one which got people thinking and a bit more creative than usual imho.

More explanation of contest theme would be useful.

While members can select/suggest contest themes, what if a panel then refined the voted theme?

For example, the first contest was 'Orange'. 4 of the top placed images featured 'sunsets'. So was the theme too vague or the voting drawn to a particular thematic image?

Apart from that - Happy New Year!

I voted on anonymous uploads which I assume will only be uploaded onto the contest pages. It seems to me that the majority of contest winners have a long list of friends too, which can lead to unbalanced voting.
Lets give give all entrants an equal opportunity to win.

Happy new year Caedes. (o:

Please... no equal opportunity to win! Only the five best (or 5 of the best 7... 10...) should do so. Otherwise... we must determine the winner by means of a random draw! :o)
And the five best will always vary... depending upon the judge(s)... the mood of said judges... the time of day judgment is made... the number of entries worthy of winning... our efforts!... :o)

@gonedigital: Yes, I meant to say that the contest posts have to be uploaded only onto the contest pages. And after the end of the contest they would be replaced to the author's gallery.

I am in agreement that the contest entry be uploaded directly into the contest page in one step.I further agree with JQ and Ramad about some entries barely skirting the edges of being related to the theme of the contest. .JEF (John) made a great point on the "orange" contest wherein 4 of the top placed images featured 'sunsets'. In this example it could have been stipulated which subject matter is allowed for that particular contest so as to make all things equal:)

It's friday night and I'm bored outa my skull so I'm messing around. Happened to notice that Con pulled my comment about the contest system to copy it over here. Lemme clarify my comment a bit.
I had entered a couple shots into the contests but when one subject came up (I think it was "orange" which is the only color I REALLY don't care for) I chose not to enter it. Imagine my surprise when I got a message I had been selected to help judge. I took it seriously. I was very careful not to look who had entered a shot. I'm wondering if we need a standardized list of criteria for a shot or something. I've noticed good shots all over that have really low scores. I don't know about anyone else but I imagine a 5 on the scale to be average. If I vote a 1 or2, it's a snapshot that should never have been uploaded. 5 if it's average. And 8-10 is really really good. I don't know how anyone else votes on the scale and I think that might mess up the results of the judging.
Just my 2 little cents.
