HI Mike, welcome to caedes. thank you for the comment on SnowFairy, I'm glad you liked it. To answer you question, I use a software called UltraFractal for most of my work. I also enhance the images generated in UF with an image programm called Paint shop pro.
sometime the images that came out of Uf are so clear and neat,they do not need to undergo PSP enhancement. SnowFairy was the product of an experimentation with both programms.
I used two images and layered them together to obtain the color mix and blending of shapes.
