Nikoneer: The Witchcraft was assigned to the 467th Bomb Group, 790 Bomb Squadron. The bomb graphics on the fuselage indicate the number of bombing runs this particular plane made during its career. Not being sure if the number 130 referred to the runs, I took the time to count them... yep, 130. In WWII, crews were allowed to rotate home (or to another duty) after 25 missions. That being said, Witchcraft obviously remained in operation for many crews and is currently the only Liberator still flying. During WWII, the U.S. lost 218 bombers in Europe, as opposed to 12,037 lost for Germany. This one definitely qualifies for the contest, Robert, particularly for an old war historian like me. Good luck with her.

Ramad: Very interesting photo and narrative Vicky. This certainly qualifies for the next contest and even a good chance to be the winner!
casechaser: Vicki, your information is not quite accurate for we all know that the true door to hell is the one that leads into my dentist's office!
I think you have a masterly picture here, rich in color, detail, and history. Should you decide to enter it, I wish you all the best. I for one think you have a winner.

Nikoneer: A classic of political history, here in America, but this is a version Ive never seen before, instead always seeing the one in which Truman is at a large venue, holding the newspaper over his head. Then, reading your post, I understand why Ive never seen it. A terrific recreation and so lucky for you to be there at the right time.
