The town of Oamaru in New Zealand's South Island claims to be the Steampunk Capital of NZ.
An enthusiastic "League of Victorian Imagineers" make their inventions in the HQ building. There is a charge to go in and watch them at work - but no photos are allowed inside !
Some large exhibits are on display outside and often one will appear in the central grassed area of the main street. The contraptions just keep coming, attracting all age groups to participate. It does not appeal to everyone, some just see it as a load of old junk but to anyone with an imagination it is a treasure trove.
Their motto is 'The future as it used to be'
This is the large locomotive that lives in front of the HQ. Put a coin in the slot and it will come to life with noise, sparks and belching steam.
