Harekeke is the plant in the foreground (NZ Flax, Phormium tenax) It thrives in coastal areas and can reach 3 metres in height.
Maori Proverb:
'Tungia te ururua, kia tupu whakaritorito te tupu o te harakeke.
Set fire to the scrub that the flax plants may shoot forth young evergreen shoots.
