It's October again and my wife is missing our Mississippi granddaughters. I can tell because she spent yesterday afternoon painting some of her yellow squash to create a Hallowe'en display out front to make our wee spooky visitors giggle a little. She loves how it turned out, adding her experience as the local children's librarian (the title comes from the last line in the popular children's book, "The Ugly Pumpkin") to the display. Hoping you like it, too, and Happy Hallowe'en to you. [The original spelling of the greeting is Hallowe'en, derived from "Hallowed Evening", taking off in the U.S. in the middle of the 19th century, when a wave of Irish immigrants left their country for America during the potato famine.]
