My son and I were out in North Dakota's country dark, during the recent rare auroral event--May 10, 2024--atop a hill that houses the transmission towers for a half-dozen transmissive agencies (including the one he works for). My DSLR died last year and that night my iPhone battery went into the red, so all I could do was watch and point out possible shots, like this one of a couple towers hovering over the silhouette of a pasture corner, in turn highlighted by an auroral display. As bright green as it appeared in the captured frame, in reality all our eyes saw that night were soft gray swirls and waves. These modern cameras see so much more than we do... either that or I'm just too friggin' old. Photo taken with a Samsung Smart Phone.
