Staying with us for a couple months over the summer, my granddaughters are into many activities, including making clay sculptures that I found drying on parchment paper on the stove top. My youngest crafted a replica of one of her school friends, Laura (instead of some mythical cartoon character)---right down to the sparkly dress and fried-egg eyes---and the thing that Laura apparently loves more than anything else... rainbows. I think we oldsters should all hang out with kids more often, if only to absorb some of that sweet simplicity... less political divisions; more clay and rainbows.
