With a length of 382 meters/1,253 feet (hull) or 477 meters/1,565 feet (maximum, including stinger and tilting lifting beams), a width of 124 meters/407 feet, a gross tonnage of 403,342, and a summer dead weight tonnage (SDWT) of 499,125 tons, the 'Pioneering Spirit' (built in 2014) is the largest ship in the world.

The vessel is specially designed for the decommissioning of offshore drilling platforms. It can lift and transport large platforms up to 48,000 tonnes in one go. In addition, the ship can also be used for the construction of gas and oil pipelines at sea.

The 'Pioneering Spirit', was depicted on August 17th, 2020, on her way to one of the Flushing, Zeeland, The Netherlands, ports in order deliver two jackets (jackets are a part of the substructure of an offshore drilling platform that have been used in the North Sea, but isn't no longer required for the extraction of oil or gas), in order to be scrapped there.
