This image was taken on June 28th, 2025 in the city of Kortrijk, Belgium. It shows the fountain 'De Golf' ('The Wave'), which is located above the entrance and exit of an underground car parking lot. The artwork is 7 m (23 feet) high and 12 m (39.37 feet) long and consists of 11 curved tubes from which the water sprays. It was created by Olivier Strebelle.
'De Golf' was the winning design from the competition 'Kunstwerk op het Schouwburgplein' that was launched by the city in 1996. Olivier Strebelle (1927 -2017) never made a fountain before and this work is a first in his oeuvre. The work consists of metal tubes and nozzles on an inclined plane that represent a wave. The monumental work (weighing 5 tons) has only one point of contact with the inclined plane and the power jet can be controlled per tube. The complexity of the movement is a technical feat. Despite the monumental character of the work, the fountain is very mobile and transparent due to the design and the materials used.
