.....the nursery rhyme that has a meaning, especially when associated with the little village of Eyam in Derbyshire. Many of the buildings and houses date back many centuries. The village has an interesting past - in 1665 the whole village isolated itself when its inhabitants were hit by the bubonic plague to prevent neighbouring villages contracting the disease. It was in one of the little cottages here (so called Plague cottages) where the plague was first contracted, when a tailor took delivery of a package from London, which was contaminated with the bubonic plague germs.
