This image is kind of a follow up to the Great Chase. If you remember I was not happy with the F-stop that I had selected for that image (f-8). I deliberately shot this one at f-11. I think that one can see how much more of the image is in focus. The wing span of a Canada Goose has to be at leat 4 feet. The geese are flying so that their wings tip do not touch. The distance between their heads consequently has to be at least four feet. Both heads are in fairly sharp focus. O.K. So here are my camera settings; Nikon d3s body, Nikon 600mm AF F4 lens, ISO 1250, F-11, 1/320 sec, no compensation. Panning on a Bogan Tripod and head. I am still trying to figure this camera out. I was disappointed to learn that when you put a DX lens on the D3S body you lose 1/3 of the magnification. It is the result of the larger surface area of the sensor. The sensor is more light sensitive (greater surface area), but the greater surface area reduces the magnification of a lens. So, Greg, my 600 mm has been effectively reduced to a 400mm. I think that when I have the light my fix is to use my D2X body. I don't know? I am still thinking about it?
