It's no secret that during the French revolution the guillotine was quite busy. It usually was a relatively short stay in La Conciergerie, usually no longer than 3 days, many times the very next day. While in the cell, a prisoner could purchase food or drink with whatever coinage she/he had. And the night before the execution the prisoner's hair was cut off (basket). Well-known temporary residents of this place included Marie-Antoinette, Robespierre, and Madame du Barry, among others. Paris, France; July, 2016.
