I've had the same photo rejected twice today for being unsatisfactory. I lot of work and enhancement went into this photo...it it not a snapshot. I disagree with this rejection. No sour grapes here but in looking at some of the other animal/pet photos, THEY are snapshots!

i would suggest, if i may, that you re-examine the photo. try if you can, to eliminate any emotion here. be a critic. how is the shot composed? are the colors and details sharp,or a bit muddy? is there something the shot is 'saying', or is it simply a photo of an animal?

since i haven't seen the photo in question, i'm flying blind here, admittedly. i'm somewhat familiar with the criteria used for rejection. also, re-examine the other shots in the gallery. apply those same questions, and see if any noticeable differences begin to take shape. good luck, and have fun

It's too bad I can't upload the rejected photo to you. Perhaps you'd see something worthwhile. It's a portrait for someone who owns the dog.

pets are a tough call to make as for the most part they are very personal and so have no real merit to the viewer in general. as you say - you're post was intended purely for a specific owner so it would fall into that category. it's true that many such shots do make it through for whatever reason but in the same respect - many are also posted that reflect a degree of thought that has gone into the composition where the animal becomes part of the picture rather than its sole focus.

I had the same problem today. I uploaded an image of a puppy twice ... it had a cute frame around it & was very artisic as far as I am concerned. After it was rejected twice, I ended up uploading the original image minus the frame & gave it a new title. Believe it or not that one was accepted. You could say I was very upset as alot of work went into it. When does an image become a piece of art & separate it from a snapshot? All photo's start out as snapshot's ... at least that is what I was taught a very long time ago & I have been taking photo's / snapshot's for about 40 years now. So what is wrong with giving an image a frame or decorating it some? Sadly to say, no one will see the first one (which was far more better) only to be rejected twice. Isn't art all about the artist expressing themselves ... it is to me.

if you were to be brutally honest with yourself though - the image that got accepted is infinitely superior as a shot than the first upload both in style and composition, particularly as a wallpaper image. framing is fine if it adds to the image but not so much when it overpowers the image and becomes detrimental. the image you have up now is a fine shot and more likely to attract comment and critique than the original as was your earlier post today that was a very good example of what can be made of pet photography where clearly a lot of effort had gone into both its thought and execution.

Sorry Phil ... I have to disagree somewhat. I do prefer the framed version over the original & to me it wasn't overpowering. But that is my preference & it is what draws me to some images. It is mostly what I look for in desktops for myself anyways. I love images that go WOW & if they seem overpowering ... well that is all the better to me. I guess I am just different & see art differently than most people. LOL. Like I said before ... art is an expression of the artist themselves & if no one cares for it ... so be it. Everyone's taste in art are totally different & I accept that. Don't worry ... I am not upset anymore & do see the point you are trying to get across. Thanks .....

I know most photos are borderline and difficult to chose to post but one example I can give you is "Kitten". It's a SNAPSHOT of a cat!! Pure and simple. Then if you look at Simba the Cat, that's a beauty but why was it chosen...it's very similar to the one that was rejected only mine's a dog. I don't get it!

Hilma - you have to remember that images are approved or rejected by more than one person and consequently they may have differing views on what is and what is not acceptable - I know which images you are referring to and agree with you on that. Ultimately any decision isnt a final one and rejects are subsequently reviewed by moderators to see if they were excluded with good cause. if you feel strongly that you would like your image reinstating then you can try pm'ing an image mod to see what they think. hope that helps.

Please, what is a pm'ing mode?

"pm" stands for "personal message"

anyone on this page who is a praetor is an image moderator. When you click on their name, it will take you to their profile/personal page where you can click the "Send a personal message" button to send them a message privately.

When someone sends you a message, it will appear under the "Jobs" menu on the righthand side of the page.

Hope this helps 8•)

I'm going to say one last thing then I'll shut up. I looked at today's postings and, while it's adorable, another photo of a pet has been posted (Edor). I think your system for judging is out of balance and inconsistant. I just don't feel like posting images any more.

The system is ‘out of balance and inconsistent’ only in so much as individual perception is. There are however talks going on to find a definitive answer to this. There are many mentions of snapshots and what is and isn’t acceptable as an upload - even a last minute reminder on the upload page - although I doubt anyone actually reads it because as is usually the case, they assume its talking about someone else and can’t surely mean their images. It also mentions in there somewhere about repeatedly uploading the same image as I recall. All of these issues are in place not to be vindictive or mean spirited but to encourage artists to produce their very best work.

Noah - you just worry about taking photos - you’re much better at that and don’t do nearly enough of it.

Thank you everybody. I understand better now. I don't think that the system here is not good, just there are human variables in the judging, and that's normal. We are complex.

I just discover this forum. To be fair, I decided to move back the last Maxine photo in the 'new images gallery'.
I've to admit this is not the worst image in the pet's gallery. But, like Phil said, new images are accepted or rejected by more than one person. And sometimes, we have some enough of these pet's images. Don't forget this is a wallpaper site and that the pet's captures are clearly snapshots (see here).
Thanks to think about that ... :-)
