I would like to make a suggestion that there be an rss feed added that lists the most recent added images and displays a preview.

feed://www.caedes.net/rss.xml isn't really much of a feed since it's just static links to the site.

I really want a feed that will return the newest images that have been added to the site

you could also try to use iframes tags on your site - as an alternative to the amazing power of rss feeds.

OoOoOoOo, now play nice Keifer ;)

He does have a point, it would be kind of neat to see the latest and greatest that's been uploaded. Although this feature isn't really necessary, it still may be nice to have.

Oh yeah, crisco96, next time I'd check out the site a bit more interms of it's populous, just to get a feel for how to word things so people don't take it the wrong way :). Also, a good way of getting some caedes street cred is to actually upload some of your own art. That goes a long way, just in showing that you're interested in contributing to the site.

Enjoy caedes.net and I hope to see some of your work up here!

I'm not sure that uploading art should be seen as necessary for making suggestions or having them taken seriously.

Looking around the forums, I honestly don't see anything out of the way about the way about the wording, unless it has been edited. The follow-up could be politer, but I've seen much, much worse not raise an eyebrow.

It's also hard to tell. crisco96 has been registered since 2004 so it is possible that he _has_ looked around quite a bit. Admittedly, making this sort of request your first ever form of visible participation may be a little questionable from the point of view of some here, but from another perspective, it might be seen as a positive contribution to the site.

Analogy: I use a good deal of open-source software. I can't really contribute code. I can't fix bugs. I can't solve problems or port programmes. I can _report_ bugs and _suggest_ features. Reporting bugs in the right way _is_ a positive contribution - and it is recognised as such. Making suggestions can also be positive, although there's less to this. (Reporting a bug in the right way involves a little more than making a suggestion in the right way.)

I'm not trying to get into an argument here. I'm just trying to express another way of looking at it. It would not honestly have occurred to me to react dismissively in this case. I don't see any cause for it.

Maybe we should think about recognising that there are different ways of contributing to the site and not all of them involve uploading art. It is possible to make a contribution to art in the real world if one is an art critic, but not an artist. It is possible if one goes to galleries, but plays no formal role in reviewing or producing art. It is possible if one raises money for the gallery or donates or spreads the word...

Sorry if the reply came off wrong.

I'm not much of an artist, I just enjoy looking at the different images people upload. I save the ones I like and add them to a random background generator that changes my desktop on various intervals.

Remembering to come back and check the site every couple of days is tough and there's really no easy way to remember what the last image I viewed was.

Since I'm a web developer I thought suggesting an rss feed of the newest images would make my life easier since my aggregator will automatically download the newest images so when I got the time I could review them and save the ones I like.

Collecting images is fine .. it is what brought all of us here, except, of course, *caedes, who collects people that collect images .. (odd fellow, that one)

creating a "friends list" will bring your favorite artists to your attention when you do find the time to drop in .. As a web developer you should understand the importance of traffic as a base need ... and as a "future" artist (*fingers crossed*) you will understand the need for feedback on ones work

we've received a lot of requests from people to make the tedium of downloading all those fabulous images easier, without all that pesky interaction with HTML and the humans that generate it

come in, take your coat off, stay awhile .. we're mostly harmless

Yeah I understand the desire to drive traffic to the site. I feel that this addition has the potential to drive more traffic to the site (at least my own traffic). For instance the rss feed in envision does the following:

Gives you the name/artist and a small preview (160 px x 120 px) of the image. If you click on the link it would take you to the image page that contains the comments and lets you download (already existing pages such as: http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Infopage&image=jswgpb-1170968432.jpg).

So really I'm not looking to avoid going to the web site, I just want an easy way to know what images I've seen and which ones I haven't looked at yet and an rss feed gives me that ability. Doing this will actually allow me to see and comment on more images since I won't accidentally miss some.

This suggests you already view and comment on images, but, whether you view them or not, you don't appear to have commented on many - maybe not any. My apologies in advance if I'm wrong about this.

Why think an RSS feed would encourage non-commentors to comment?

There is also a possible concern here - and I don't know whether it is actually a concern or not - about rips. Would an RSS feed make it easier to rip Caedes images? I don't know the answer to this - it really is a genuine question.

I chuckled at the "comment" comment too .. a karma of 4, fully represented in this thread

an RSS feed has been requested in the past ... it may materialize at some point .. but we'd prolly only feed the advertisements on it

Ok got me there I don't comment, but I do download which I would think would speak more loudly than being the 15th person to say: "good image, I like it". Like I said I'm no artist so my comments wouldn't add any real insight to the image.

In all honesty I could pretty quickly write a script that would generate an rss feed for me based off the url http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Gallery&gallery=new%20images and see no advertisements, I was just trying to go through this using official channels.
