Just a thought to have some visible designation on postings, that alert the viewers that the artist who's work they are viewing is of a certain age.
More to the point, one that would indicate that the artist involved is ... hmm, say below the age of 15 or so.
Might temper some of the comments from viewers and members if they are made aware of this fact upfront.
Not that there are not younger artists on the site who's works are not worthy of being judged at a more critical level ... just think it would be a safeguard and more encouraging as a side effect ... if age was taken into consideration when viewing and commenting.
Would be great if this could be extended to voting as well. I have noticed from time to time, new member ... younger ... posts a few pieces and/or images ... the vote numbers come back ... and whether it is shellshock or not ... no further word is heard from them after that point.
Offered for consideration.
EDIT: It could be something as simple as instead of the 'fistful of pics' that currently denotes a member with a gallery ... a different one.
Perhaps, in place of ... a fistful of pics of cute puppies or kittens. (<--- JOKe)
Perhaps we could add a scale that people could indicate on their uploads what level of critique they require - ranging from ‘Smother me in treacle, regardless’ to ‘Kick me in the nuts. Hard’
Nice refinement Randy ... something on the upload page might be easier to accomodate.
Or ... how about the creation of a gallery, or galleries ... wherein submission to ... depending on ... is met with an expectation of level of critique?
And then subsequently moved to the appropriate gallery for the image.
I would object most strongly to my age being published on my pictures! - crikey, I may be expected to act my age.
Although perhaps people would be kind to geriatrics. . .maybe not such a bad idea after all . . .
Of course, you all know I am only 14, so bear that in mind when you vote on my pics!!
I think it depends more on the person than their age... some people adore any sort of criticism, negative or no,:) and some people just don't want to take it in. I don't see how this has much to do with age. Or am I misunderstanding the whole idea?
The idea was that the critic would be able to see the age of the artist rather than the other way round. The suggestion was really only that we would have some idea if the person was only quite young so that this could be taken into consideration when judging the image and offering advice.
An indication, not a published chronological age. Sheesh Lyn ... didn't you read the intro? :o|
Or are your eyes failing that much? *snickers*
:oP
Just kidding ... really, really ... really ... just kidding.
Dark_Star_Shining?
To clarify and to reiterate and here I am quoting me own self:
"Might temper some of the comments from viewers and members if they are made aware of this fact(age group) upfront.
Not that there are not younger artists on the site who's works are not worthy of being judged at a more critical level ... just think it would be a safeguard and more encouraging as a side effect ... if age was taken into consideration when viewing and commenting.
... I have noticed from time to time, new member ... younger ... posts a few pieces and/or images ... the vote numbers come back ... and whether it is shellshock or not ... no further word is heard from them after that point."
Alternatively we could have a youth/young person gallery that would be exempt from voting... it could be voluntary to avoid excluding anyone who wanted to go in the new images gallery with everyone else?
No, my eyes are not failing - I did read your intro Les,I just thought doddery old things should perhaps be given some leniency as well, taking into account failing eyesight, forgetfulness etc- joke joke
and to be serious I think a Youth Section has its merits but have to add that most of the young people I know would think themselves quite worthy of being judged along with more experienced artists.
A voluntary inclusion into a non voted section would seem a good idea.
I have a suspicion though, that most of them would choose to be judged, but it would certainly be nice to have the option and perhaps some more timid types would stay around.
The fact that many of the younger members do not return could just as well be they have gone on to some other interest - tends to happen when one is young.
Now I will enjoy the choc shortbread - while I still have my teeth.
I, er ... just repeated myself thinking you would pick out the salient points. :o|
At the risk of offending the group I am trying to nurture ... simply put this time ...
There have been postings on some of the other discussion threads, wherein younger members expressed how demotivating things can get for them when our infamous number (the C-Index) raises its' head in their vicinity.
Add to that, the time constraints that we all face ... the helpful comments and critiques don't always flow their way or in any large numbers period. And I get the impression that some, some insulation from the scoring might alleviate the negativity they come away with associated with the scoring system at present.
OH! OMG I get it... that took a while didn't it... lol. I feel stupid. Anyway I know what you're talking about now. I like the idea, now that I know what you're talking about! I have NO idea what I thought you meant, now that I read what I said before.Sorry!
Thanks!
I actually did download Apophysis a while back, and finally got around to playing with it in the past month or two. I did actually use that, site, too. I'm still experimenting, obviously. Grass Feathers and Blue Love in my gallery both are from Apophysis, or at least started there. I'm really having a lot of fun with it, I do love it!
