The 6th annual IWP contest is open to both pro and amateur photographers and awards prizes worth more than 10,000 UK pounds (almost US$20,000) across eight categories of entries:

1 - Birds in Britain
2 - Birds of the world
3 - Birds in flight
4 - Bird behaviour
5 - Birds in the landscape
6 - Amateur and amateur digiscoping
7 - 18s and under (the photographers, that is -- the birds can be any age)
8 - Best portfolio

There is an entry fee, however: 20 UK pounds covers it, whether you're entering one image or the max. three images in each of Categories 1 - 7 plus one entry in Category 8. (If you're entering only Category 7, though, you get a break -- a 10-pound fee.)

All images must have been taken in the last three years and may be submitted as high-rez jpgs on CD or as 35mm transparencies in standard mounts. Submissions cannot be made online, and the Nov. 30, 2008, deadline applies to when Bird Watching magazine receives your entry in Peterborough, UK, so factor in mailing time, even if you, too, are in Peterborough, UK.

Prizes include a Nikon D300 body, Sony Alpha 700 DSLR camera, Canon 10x42WP binoculars, Swarovski ATS65HD telescope, Manfrotto tripod kit, and other photography and birdwatching gear. Runners-up get 100-pound gift vouchers from Warehouse Express.
