I feel like I'm being cheated when I see $19.99. They're just trying to manipulate me into thinking I'm paying less than I really am. Whenever I sell anything, I avoid 9 like the plague! To me psychologically, it's like an unresolved leading tone in music.

In the interests of not ranting on for half an hour, the short answer is a price at which retailers will offer an item for sale. Generally considered an "attractive" price due to mysterious workings of somebody's brain. $17.99 is not a price point. $21.99 is.

I heard a great one on an add for hair dye last night. Apparantly it gives your hair "40% more dimension". Someone want to explain to me wth that is supposed to mean?? Since when can you measure increases in "dimension"? Which dimension in particular are we talking about anyway??
