I placed an idea in THIS discussion and it was suggested I mention it here as well . .
A good reward for the winning contestant would be to choose the next contest subject.
My suggestion in the other thread that they be part of the judging panel for the next contest would not work unless there was a judging panel instead of the user vote method :)
Phil, I do not really understand how it would lead to voting abuse unless the designated moderators on the voting panel were likely to indulge in abusing the system. There would be only one 'regular' member whose single vote would be unable to sway the result to any great degree.
As I said in the other thread it is not really something that bothers me much, no system is perfect, but going by past opinions of the voting bias it seemed to be based on the fact that some thought there was a group or groups voting for their own favourite people rather than the images.
I just thought it would be a reward of sorts for the contest winner to be invited to the voting panel.. But as there is no voting panel, it is not applicable lol
Was just a thought.
I still think the winner having the choice of the next contest subject would be worthwhile, and would not impact on votes.
Of course an all expenses paid luxury holiday would also be a nice reward . . . . . . .hehe - then the voting may need some scrutiny, but the entries would probably increase !! :)
..LOL..@ the expenses luxury holiday.....not a bad idea, LynEve, but methinks we all have to become a member of the Caedes Cadre to get this of the ground :oD
Lyn - I dont think its healthy for the same people to be responsible for judging any contest entry as personal tastes would limit the outcomes considerably so my point really was that by still having open voting - your suggestion of the winner having control of the next topic would or could lead to voting pattern abuse. sorry if i was unclear :-)
Hi Phil, With all due respect I would suggest that image moderators judge images every day when they decide which are to be promoted or archived, and as they do that without bias or favouritism and without letting personal taste influence their choice, then judging a contest with a specific subject should not in theory be any different. The panel members could also be rotated at intervals.
Could you explain a bit more the last bit you wrote - about the winner choosing the subject for the next contest possibly leading to voting pattern abuse?
:) Thanks
permed images are hopefully selected in order to bring a balanced representation of all the works on Caedes based on a variety of factors none of which should hopefully be the artist or the cindex. it isn't perfect and occasionally the page can resemble a fan boy scrap book but that's usually second guessed and corrected. as I recall Caedes is also looking at ways of improving the process of selection.
contest entries on the other hand are often personal interpretations of the subject which goes some way toward explaining why often winning entries have little or nothing to do with the contest topic. for that kind of surreal interpretation - a variety of opinions is required.
the voting pattern abuses are well documented and observed before whether they be in the voting booth, artist spotlight etc. so need little more introduction
I have said the same thing both in this thread and the thread "Anonymous Contest System" which I have given the link to.
- I have no problem with the status quo, I personally have never had any complaint about voting - either in the VB or contest voting.
My suggestion was just that - a suggestion that was really in response to those who may believe contest voting is affected by 'favourite people' being selected rather than a true interpretation of the subject. I believe, by and large, caedes members have enough integrity not to do that, but if voting abuse has been noted and documented in general voting then as the same members are voting on the contests it would be accross the board.
I also agree if it aint broke dont fix it.
Making the entries annonymous as has been suggested, in my opinion, would have little or no effect on the way voters choose.

That 'anything else' could be a feature on the home page of the winning picture for one (1) week.
Just a thought :o)
