im a fan of rococo, as long as we all really understand what the category is and how to integrate rococo into none banal works, i think that can be done easily. good idea though, ive always been a fan of asymmetry, and random turns with a bit of playfullness and delicacy.

It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

I think cloud formations would be fun. It would also induce folks to look up more and laugh at the sky! lol

I haven't voted as yet...? But I am thinking that photos of a bridge could/would be more artistic than photos of cloud formations [a matter of luck (in my mind)]... the bridge gives one time to set-up the shot... a good cloud formation often forces a snapshot reaction! The trouble with both of these topics is that graphic artists would most likely be left out. Perhaps a more general topic like Outside the Box! - GDs moonlighting as Photographers moonlighting as GDs would work better(found this idea via Google), but I foresee a problem here for the judges re. the new/er comers to the site! How do they get classified? Just in-case... GDs = GraphicDesigners   If anyone wishes to make use of this idea... JUST DO IT! :o)

I think bridges would be a very difficult topic for fractal artists - it's far more a photographic topic.

Ok, just checked ... and there is a setting for Apophysis that addresses "Bokeh".

Namely, that of ... 'Depth Blur'. Found in the Adjustment dialog window.

Examples;

Actual flame created employing Depth Blur.

Flame that started out with the intention, and was finished in post processing.

Sticking to my word that I gave to Olivér ... casting my vote for Bokeh.

Here is the previous 'Bokeh' (/Depth of Field) topic poll discussion that contains many a link to some inspiration of other imagery for Bokeh (/Depth of Field).

Now, with that said..

Try to keep in mind, when suggesting a topic:

i) Open to all genres of art. Not just photography.

ii) Add a short description (one or two lines is sufficient) , so 'we' know what the artistic aim/intention of the subject matter is.

iii) Try not to repeat previous topics.

can bridges mean any sort of bridge like a symbolic one, because then this contest won't be so incredibly boring

In the emotions contest, Hannah posted a wonderful graphic art composition about a bridge. Here. So it is a topic that is suitable for all genres I think.

Brought about by Cindy's and Emily's last posts here (with the help of Google)... The bridge: connection, separation, organization... might even bring up other ideas! Great thinking Emily! :o)

"Brought about by Cindy's and Emily's last posts here (with the help of Google)... The bridge: connection, separation, organization... might even bring up other ideas!"

And that is why.. I feel/think/believe ... that posting to the discussion thread ... a one or two line description addressing/outlining the suggested topic would be of benefit to 'us' all.

Might mitigate some knee-jerk reactions, in the thinking/perceptions that a topic is centric to one genre of art.

Well, I voted motion but considering the way everyone is going the extra mile on bridges, I'm guessing that's not going to be a problem when it's chosen. Since it's the big winner so far.

I can see how 'bridges' could be a wide open topic, not just as a literal view but as metaphor also. Although... I like motion as well...

really great article posted by Con_ particularly the first para. for those philosophers out there.

"The symbol of the bridge has a long and complex genealogy in European social theory and serves as a powerful metaphor in organization studies. Georg Simmel’s essay ‘Bridge and Door’ is at least one obvious reference here, with its observation that “the human being is the connecting creature who must always separate and can not connect without separating”. This makes the bridge almost ubiquitous in social relations – either in terms of its presence or absence. Simmel goes on to conclude that we must “first conceive intellectually of the merely indifferent existence of the two river banks as something separated in order to connect them by means of a bridge". These themes of connection and separation also take us further back, to Hegel’s Platonic discussion of the human condition as predicated on discontinuity, on a lack of otherness, an absence of connection and a fundamental separation from each other. Consciousness, for Hegel, means identifying as one self (oneself) and not an other (another). A similar trajectory of course can be found in the many variants of psychoanalysis and their emphasis on both connection with and separation from those around us as crucial aspects of early psychological development." (cite from Con_'s original post)

Okay, so for example Dali's famous woman with drawers and many works of Dali use this psychoanalysis, just an example of ONE way the entries can look, i do expect to see some really cool bridge images

Well that's all a bit too intellectual for a cretin like me..Suffice to say I proposed bridges because they fascinate so many people and the range and diverity of these structures,The engineering genius that went into them fascinate me too. From the simple Stone structure to the massive Suspension bridges.Right down to the weirdly wonderful Here...Boring I think not..

Richie... that transporter bridge functions more like a ferry than a bridge... to me! Get in line... wait to get on... rest while crossing! The great thing about this is the camera can easily be used by the 'driver'! :o)
