There were 57 entries in the last contest, and mine was the only non-photograph.

Looks like the next choice will leave plenty of room for interpretation for photographers, graphic artists and fractalists too.

Rule of Thirds in Blue

"Compose your subject using the rule of thirds while using blue as your primary color
."

(Tip of the hat to dpchallenge.com for this idea. Some photographic examples and creative food for thought ... found here.)

Some.. think that 'we' could use a refresher on the note(s) of composition.

Some.. think that 'we' need topics that are open to allll genres of art.

This one.. qualifies.

And could encompass the topics of 'water' and 'still life' as well.

Water is a new challenge for most of us here and than I don't mean the waterfalls and ocean pictures or reflections on the water, which btw are looking great, but I mean really really some new good stuff, that would be a welcome refreshing!

So show us your creative mind/side of what you can do with water :o)

There are plenty of creative things that could be done with water, but experience tells me we'd end up with almost exclusively "waterfalls and ocean pictures or reflections on the water". That's why I'd like to see a contest topic that won't allow people to think "Oh, I can go out and shoot that!" I'm not opposed to water as a topic, just not very hopeful of being impressed.

Don't mind me, just indulging in some wishful thinking here ...

With 3 days to go and water already so far ahead in votes/ratio of votes cast it seems unlikely water will be sunk by a late run of votes. So could we at least find a way to undermine the obvious shots and advantage the clever, original, divergent and just plain freaky water shots that get entered? It will be a royal freaking waste of time if the winner is a smoothed waterfall (I love 'em, take lots of 'em but that's no excuse to be indulgent in this contest.) or Fall trees reflected in a smooth lake or some such. Can we change it to ORIGINAL WATER SHOTS please and have mods empowered to simply wipe off any votes that go to bog standard images regardless of how fantastic they are? (That was plaintiff rhetoric folks, I know it won't happen.) Sulk, grump, grumble......

Thanks for all the creds - 111 now! Not exactly "even", but a nice balanced number :-)

On the actual topic at hand - I wonder how many people who enter or vote on the challenges (or even on the topics) ever read these threads. Not very many, I'm afraid.

What does it mean, original water shots? We never post somebody's copies, they are our original shots. And water? Is there not original water, is it artificial? If Water wins, I'll have to think how to make an interesting work... water in a glass? In an beautiful bottle? No, the water is best in the ocean, sea, lake, river... Those shots are original. That was your opinion? But, let's hope water won't win.

Not original as in "not a copy" but
2. new; fresh; inventive; novel:
Or maybe "creative" would be a better word.

I tend to favour Contest Topics that embody a concept or facet of art ... or possibly, that of a new 'technique'.

As opposed to a singular, defined ... thing. (Broader, not narrower.. to allow for more participation from the entire community.. not just those with a camera.)

Which tends to skew entries/submissions and the contest itself to that of a photography-centric challenge.

Think it is a good good idea to push oneself out of comfort zones and learn something in the process.

The Main Galleries: Photography->Water, as they sit as of this writing here.

Since I am not sure what the creative intention/goal/aim/objective intended by the member who put this up as an option is/was ... I would point others to investigate that section of the site and in particular, the earlier images contained therein.

Oh, come on, people, don't you think you take this discussion and the contests too serious? Water or not, so what? There are always nice shots, it doesn't matter the topic. Even if it is People again, we can see so many new and beautiful shots, again. Don't play philosophers, keep it for more serious things in your lives. There is no need for that here, let's enjoy with beautiful posts, life is too difficult even without these kind of philosophical discussions. Come on creative people, relax and prepare yourselves for the new contest.
No offense, I hope.

Have a great time
Milka

Okay, voting for the People contest was grueling!!! I narrowed it down and expanded it, looked again and narrowed it down, looked again and expanded it again and an hour later decided - no I didn't, I considered a bit more. Then changed my mind on two.

I absolutely bow and tip my hat to ALL the entries. Everyone really broke out all the (f)stops on this one - except me :( But that reason is a well kept secret for now. Just awesome work.

I think I'm going with The Five Senses on this because I haven't a clue of what I will do with it - sounds fun. But Thirds was really close too.

Let's have fun.

Go to the page with the current entries on it. At the top of the page is a drop down menu that lists all the images you have uploaded since the contest began. Pick the one ou want to enter into the contest.

"Since I am not sure what the creative intention/goal/aim/objective intended by the member who put this up as an option is/was ..." (+purmusic) I suggested water. Guilty. My intention/aim...... is/was to present water by choice. It doesn't matter, just a drop or a whole ocean. But I personally can't do that, we don't have ocean. LOL

Then "twinkel" said: "Water is a new challenge for most of us here and than I don't mean the waterfalls and ocean pictures or reflections on the water..." So, no waterfalls, ocean-sea-lake pictures. Aha, OK. But I saw the entries, they are almost "dried", hidden waters, drops, water in the dark, ice. I haven't seen steam. Not yet. So, are they afraid to show us some nice water pictures, otherwise we would think they are "stupid"?

There is no creativity if there are limits and boundaries, my friends. I shouldn't be afraid to express or show what I want, what I feel. So, water is water however you present it.

Thanks for your time. Milka

@ mafecp21

Re: "I went to "entries" but there is no drop down menu. where is that?"

The drop down menu will automatically appear, provided that you have uploaded/posted images since the official start of any contest.

If you haven't uploaded/posted any images since the start of a contest.. no drop down menu will appear on the page you visited.

With one caveat, you may experience a slight delay even if you upload/post an image.

This due to the fact that the image or images have to be approved firstly.

Then.. all will fall into line for you.
