The whole world wondered if these men were going to make it home. This heat shield on the underbelly of the Odessy kept those men alive upon re-entry of our atmosphere. Scorched from 5000 degrees plus temperatures, this sheet of technology earned its scars. Enjoy.

That's over five times hotter than the temperatures that "melted" the steel girders of the WTC! Very interesting post, Laura!
