First of all, I can't believe that they have a "mushrooms" category! lol . I spotted this up in the tree...it's not a fungus that is attached to the tree, it's a mushroom growing in the dirt in the hole, and it was gone within a couple of days. I put this in a collage form so that you could see two views of it. Very strange, indeed. One for MM.

A most unusual find and well taken!
I am sure it has a unique spot here on caedes. There would be very few mushrooms growing in trees. I have seen them growing up a trunk but never like this with it's own little shelter hole. Perfect for MM :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I guess I may be a nitpicker but I think mushrooms ARE fungi. Regardless of the semantics, this is an interesting picture. Your nature pictures always are.

Another perfect one for Manic Monday, Connie!
The first time that I saw that gnomes prefer living in a 'sky scraper' penthouse. Hope for them however that there's an elevator too, ☺ .
